Alicja Dobrucka

Polish born photographer Alicja Dobrucka is featured in this year's New Contemporaries exhibition. In her series of images 'I like you, I like you a lot' (2008 - 2010), Dobrucka explores both the emotional and philosophical facets of grief, mourning, human fragility and family following the sudden loss of her younger brother.

Going Dutch...Etsy style!

This week is Dutch Design Week. As Etsy is such an amazing source of creative talent today I'm taking a look at some Dutch artists. I hope you like this eclectic collection as much as I do!

Regina Wilson

Regina Wilson is an Australian Aboriginal artist who began as a weaver, making intricate, colourful baskets and nets. She went on to explore the complex patterns of these objects in her incredibly detailed paintings, which bridge the gap between traditional and contemporary indigenous art.The weave that appears most frequently in her paintings is the 'syaw', which is used to construct the nets in which fish and other seafood are traditionally caught. Other motifs include basket weaves and the 'message stick' that served as a communication device between different Aboriginal groups. Enjoy...

Victoria Sambunaris – The Border

Victoria Sambunaris is one of my favorite photographers - she tours the US in her car, looking for interesting shots with something to say. In her recent project, The Border, she spent eight months travelling the diverse physical and cultural geography of the US – Mexico border. Here are a few of the epic images she captured:

First few months of Etsy

About a year ago I discovered Etsy! I was blown away by the amazing range of talented people who had set up shop selling everything from greetings cards to jewellary to clothing and art. Suddenly life as an independent artist seemed possible. After taking some time to refine my designs I took the plunge and opened my very own shop. My material of choice at the moment is wool-felt. They texture is great - kind of soft but sturdy - it feels authentic somehow. Here are a few of my products:

I think that simple is often best and hopefully these designs capture that idea.
